Princeton

Come to the orchards of this "wonderful little mom-'n'-pop shop" to pick your own of over 25 varieties of apples, strawberries, pumpkins, and whatever else is in season. They also sell "the best home-made food around," including "the best cinnamon cookies, cider doughnuts, and apple cider you will ever taste." Out back, you might run into animals ranging from horses to geese in the huge fields, and they have festivals nearly every fall weekend, complete with wagon rides, music, and a cornfield maze. This place has been "kept in the family for generations" and "has something for everyone." Read more.

Bromilow's
West Caldwell
973.227.0819
People come to this "shop dripping with sweet treats" from far and wide, not just for the "amazing peanut butter cups the size of your palm" or the "melt-in-your-mouth two-layer hazelnut truffles," but for something most candy lovers might find a little unusual: chocolate-covered potato chips. Made for anyone who appreciates the perfect mix of sweet and salt, these chips tend to sell out fast. Store employees will hand-dip anything in homemade chocolate (even Twinkies!). And if all of this is too much sugar overload for you, they make sugar-free versions of their popular treats. Read more.
Paws Farm Nature Center of Mount Laurel Township
Mount Laurel
856.778.8795
With many farm animals to pet, animal lovers can get their fix at the animal reserve known as Paws Farm, where among the attractions are playgrounds, a large barn, and plenty of outdoor and indoor activities. Making this "a wonderful place to bring small children" is a "vet clinic where your child can dress up and play vet," plus a "grocery store with small shopping carts for your children." Advance reservations are recommended for groups, and there are educational and recreational programs throughout the year for the family. Read more.

Delsea Drive-In
Vineland
856.696.0011
With movie theater parking spaces at a premium, and home entertainment systems all the rage, the drive-in movie theatre is an endangered species. But at the Delsea, you can have the very unique, old-time experience of seeing a movie in your car. The only drive-in movie theatre in New Jersey plays current, first-run pictures and usually features a double header for the price of a single ticket. Typically, the "first movie is family appropriate, with a second movie for the adults." Hungry? The food menu has all the usual burgers and fries fare, plus a not-so-old-school special section for Atkins-dieters. Read more.
The Bent Spoon
Princeton
609.924.BENT
Taking the ice cream sandwich to the next level, The Bent Spoon uses "one miniature croissant" on either side of their delicious" ice cream. The ice cream is gelato-style and is made using fresh products like local organic eggs and hormone-free cream. The array of 400 flavors ranges from standard vanilla bean and mango to lavender marscapone. If it's cold outside, order a cup of European-style hot chocolate with homemade marshmallows for a "fabulous winter treat." This "quaint little shop" with a "charming atmosphere" is nestled in downtown Princetown and is considered one of the town's "best-kept secrets." Read more.
